| SEN. BENTON AND REP. HARRIS FILE FOR RE-ELECTION | | 05/17/12 |
VANCOUVER… Sen. Don Benton, R- Vancouver, and Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver, of the seventeenth district, filed official papers today for re election to their
respective seats in the State Senate and House of Representatives for the 2012
election. Clark County Commissioner Tom Mielke made an appearance at the filing to
show his solid support and endorsement of Benton and Harris in their re-election bid.
Commissioner Mielke stated: "Senator Benton's leadership in working for solutions across
party lines has benefitted the citizens of Clark County a great deal."
“It is an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Clark County,” said Sen. Benton. “I am
dedicated to do whatever it takes to get our citizens working again" and "I will continue to
focus my efforts on protecting children and making sure that they have a world class education."
“It has been an honor to serve with such a dedicated representative like Paul Harris.”
During the 2012 session Sen. Benton worked to hold a coalition together to pass a bi-partisan budget that refrained from making any cuts to education. He is most proud of his efforts to reduce the growth of state debt by helping to pass a balanced budget amendment.
“Sen. Benton was a key player in helping pass our budget this year,” said Sen. Joe Zarelli, who negotiated the budget for the Republican caucus and persuaded 3 conservative Democrats to vote with Benton on a procedural motion that brought the budget to the floor of the Senate.
Benton is a conservative Republican who has long advocated fiscal responsibility in state government
and has represented East Clark County for 18 years. | |
