| Castillo Picks Up More Endorsements | | 07/29/10 | The Daily News Endorses Castillo & Heck
July 29, 2010 (Excerpt)
The Daily News editorial board recommends that voters advance Denny Heck and David Castillo to the November general election. Heck and Castillo impressed us as the most capable candidates in this crowded field, and they would offer voters in a district that trends both red and blue an excellent choice come November. Both hold fast to the principles of their respective parties, but they have the maturity and experience required to understand the practical value of moderation and cooperation.

(The Daily News) 3rd District Race: What to do with Bush tax cuts?
July 29, 2010 (Excerpt)
The Daily News asked each of the candidates vying for the 3rd Congressional District seat in next month's primary to discuss whether they would allow the cuts to expire.
The tax reductions, approved under President George W. Bush in 2001 and 2003, have been cited — along with the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Obama economic stimulus package — as a cause for the nation's budget deficit, which was $1.4 trillion last fiscal year.
Following are answers, submitted by e-mail, from Republicans Jaime Herrera and David Castillo, Democrats Cheryl Crist and Denny Heck and Independent Norma Jean Stevens. Republican David Hedrick did not participate.

(The Columbian) State AG (McKenna) touts Castillo for Congress
July 28, 2010 (Excerpt)
It was about 18 months ago, during a conversation over coffee, that Attorney General Rob McKenna decided to throw his support behind David Castillo, a first-time candidate who was mounting a challenge to U.S. Rep. Brian Baird.
The political sands have shifted since McKenna’s pledge: Baird opted to retire rather than run for re-election, leaving Castillo, state Rep. Jaime Herrera, R-Camas, and Democrat Denny Heck, among others, jockeying for position to advance beyond next month’s primary and into the general election.
What hasn’t changed, McKenna said Tuesday inside a ballroom at The Heathman Lodge, is his belief that Castillo has the “right experience, right convictions and the right skill-set” to become the first republican to capture the 3rd District since 1999.
“I got behind David early, and I think he will be a great congressman,” McKenna said.
Two key early endorsers of Castillo’s candidacy, McKenna and House Republican leader Richard DeBolt, R-Chehalis, made clear their support Tuesday morning...
“When David asked me to help him out, there was no hesitation,” DeBolt said. “He is the person that is meant to be in D.C. right now.”
